The impact of crop rotation, No-Till method, and fertilization on winter wheat production in the northern region of the Republic of Moldova

Abstract

The article analyzes winter wheat production from 2015 to 2024, depending on the preceding crop, soil tillage method, and fertilization, as well as different agro-climatic conditions, within a long-term experiment conducted at the National Center for Research and Seeds Production, "Selecția" sector. It compares direct sowing (No-Till) after corn for grain, shallow tillage with a disc harrow after peas for grain, as well as a variant with a mixture of vetch and oats for green forage as preceding crops. The comparison included both fertilized and non-fertilized variants. The differences between the preceding crops were not statistically significant, but fertilization had a clear and consistent effect on production. The results highlight the essential role of fertilization and soil moisture reserves in maintaining productivity, confirming that conservative technologies can ensure stable yields under conditions of crop rotation with greater diversity.
