Interpretative aspects of the romance ”Pe lângă plopii fără soț...” in its own interpretative vision

Abstract

Romance Pe lângă plopii fără soț... was written in the second half of the 19th century by the Romanian composer and pianist Guilelm Șorban based on a poem by Mihai Eminescu. Over time, this romance has enjoyed increasing popularity, including in the folklore environment, being transmitted orally and performed as a lyrical song. Today, the romance Pe lângă plopii fără soț... is included in the repertoire of singers with different backgrounds: academic, stage, jazz, etc. The author is interested in the worldly, urban version of the creation, as it was conceived by the author. We will make an analysis of an interpretive version, which is more common among both established and amateur singers, a model that reflects the urban folklore foundation of romance and we will propose certain aspects related to the specifics of vocal performance. In this direction, we will highlight different elements of versification, dynamic nuance, vocal emission, rhythmic treatment, intonation and architectural form.
