Sonata no. 2 "Romantică" for clarinet and piano by Oleg Negruța: artistic and technical-performance aspects

In the present study, the author aims to highlight both the artistic content of the work, elucidating the role of the solo instrument in creating the musical image, and certain technical and performance-related aspects. Sonata no. 2 for clarinet and piano by Oleg Negruța represents the classical genre, but called "Romantica", the composer renders an epic, narrative, melancholic musical content, taking into account the rigors of the Romantic era. Thus, the basic themes are smooth, with a pronounced melodiousness, meditative character. Some of these also represent a wellmarked rhythmic aspect typical of a dance. The clarinet fulfills a declamatory-rhetorical function, generating dramaturgical tension through motivic fragmentation, register contrasts and expressive accents. In the second part, the instrument becomes the bearer of a lyrical and confessional dimension, being treated as an interiorized human voice, capable of transmitting subtle nuances of expressiveness. The finale of the sonata brings a new hypostasis of the clarinet, as a rhythmic generator and instrument of cyclic synthesis, capable of unifying the entire dramaturgical path of the work.
